Watch the Dateline episode “Down the Rabbit Hole” now

Keith Morrison reports on the July 2012 murder of Mary Ann Murphy in Humble, Texas.

It was the middle of the night in Humble, Texas. July 16, 2012.

Sixteen-year-old Keri Murphy was on the phone from a neighbor’s home, tearfully pleading with 911 to send help, saying someone was in her house attacking her mother.

Police raced to the Murphy home prepared to walk into an active crime scene, but by the time they arrived, all they found was Mary Ann Murphy lying on her bed, covered in blood. She’d been murdered.

Keri was a mess when she sat down with detectives to tell them what she could.

She said she hadn’t seen anything, she just heard the horrible screams of her mother being attacked.

But who was the attacker? And where did they go?

To find out what happened, watch “Down the Rabbit Hole” on Peacock now.
