NOAA Digital Coast’s Post

Conservation is good for people and the 🌎! We’re working with state and local partners across the country to set aside coastal land for natural habitat, public recreation, and storm protection. By directly investing in restoration projects in the coastal and Great Lakes states and territories, we are increasing the number of protected acres of coastal wetlands, corals, and natural shorelines. In turn, these ecosystems will help decrease economic losses from the impacts of coastal hazards (like flooding) to property and infrastructure. Ongoing projects include: 1) Expanding habitat and public access at the site of a former water park in Westerly, Rhode Island https://lnkd.in/gYWswEji 2) Restoring an entire watershed to boost coho salmon populations in southern Oregon https://lnkd.in/gEjB63FA 3) Preserving floodplain forests to reduce flooding and establish a new state park along the Black River, South Carolina https://lnkd.in/ehF_26Y5#EarthDay#EarthDay2025#Conservation#NatureBasedSolutions 📸 : Town of Westerly, Jennifer Koester, Open Space Institute

  • Kayaks and paddleboards are beached in the salt marsh while a group of paddlers play in shallow blue water.
  • A group of people walk a trail through a floodplain of tall grass with a conifer forest in the distance.
