- [Instructor] The more you work with Excel, the more you discover keystroke shortcuts. Many Excel keystroke shortcuts, of course, use the Control key, but the Alt key is also used and it's used in two different ways. First of all, if you just press the Alt key on your keyboard, what's happened? In the menu command system in the ribbon, every one of the command options there is preceded by a letter, in some cases, a combination of letters, and it might vary somewhat depending upon which computer you're using. Now, the purpose of this could be sometimes you're using a mouse or a trackpad, and maybe that's not working. Or maybe you've discovered there's a keystroke combination that you could be using frequently instead of using mouse or trackpad. In other words, a shortcut.
