It’s the start of a new year, so I’m doing a style prediction of what to expect in 2025. I find the best way to get through January, other than with my favourite scented candle, a good Netflix obsession and lots of mugs of hot chocolate, is to look forward to all the exciting things to come.

For black-tie events a tailored trouser suit has always been a stylish alternative to a dress. Now another serious player has entered the evening-do arena: the tuxedo suit with a dickie bow, as rocked by Sienna Miller last month. Mark my words – the trend is about to be everywhere.
If, like me, you are a big trousers girl you’ll be pleased to know that for 2025 they are packing a lot more personality, with the return of the skirt-over-trousers look, plus hero plaid and check prints. For those whose sartorial look is more classic, the slouchy, straight-leg silhouette (spilling over the shoe), which has been championed by Prada, Jil Sander and Miu Miu, is one of the year’s go-to cuts. While for those who love wide-leg trousers (see right), this style – thank the fashion gods – is here to stay and has been updated with a high-waisted fit, as seen at Khaite and Saint Laurent.
The thirst for vintage designer bags (see Spotted, right) will continue to rise, which is great news for sustainability. The demand for these pieces is largely due to the prices of new bags, with brands such as Hermès and Chanel pushing so many of us out of the market. My only worry is that it will be increasingly difficult to find a good-value second-hand purchase, as preloved sites continue to greedily increase prices.
Last year we saw a huge bow obsession with everything from hair accessories to details on designer and high-street clothes. The trend has been explained as a desire for repositioning femininity in a far-from-straightforward world. As such, expect lots of full skirts and floaty dresses in the coming months.

These wool-blend trousers by Cos are my favourite wide-leg cut on the high street. Perfect slouch, perfect length – perfectly perfect!
I do love Keira Knightley’s style, from her ultra-feminine dresses to her sleek tailoring and loafers. For extra chic – and sustainability – points, she was spotted clutching a vintage Chanel bag during the New York press tour for her new Netflix show Black Doves. She was first seen with the bag in 2010 at Chanel’s spring/summer 2011 show in Paris.
