RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Richmond Police have announced a major development in the 2016 disappearance of Keeshae Jacobs.

During Thursday’s crime briefing, Police Chief Rick Edwards confirmed that Otis Tucker has been named a person of interest in Keeshae’s death.

Edwards says Tucker admitted to police he was with Keeshae at the time of her death and disposed of her body.

However, he did not admit to killing her.

Tucker is serving a life sentence for the murder of a Florida woman. Police say Jacobs’ family went there for the interview with law officials.

“There was an agreement to not use it against him in any future proceedings. It’s a very sad story and I know we had all held up hope that she would be found but unfortunately she was not,” Edwards said.

Tucker was convicted for murdering Ashley Fowler in Florida six years after Jacobs went missing.

Court records in Richmond show an Otis Tucker had multiple violent charges in the city, some even before Jacobs was killed. Richmond Commonwealth’s Attorney Colette McEachin confirms it is the same Otis Tucker as involved in Jacobs’ case.

Toni Jacobs previously told 12 On Your Side Tucker knew Keeshae through a mutual friend.

“He did not say he killed her. He did admit to disposing her body in a way you know, I don’t want to go into details about it, in a way that we are unable to find her,” Edwards said.

Chief Edwards thanked the media and all of the partners who helped over the years in the case.

“Toni and the rest of his family obviously is devastated by the final realization that she is no longer with us,” Edwards said.

Back in May, Keeshae’s mother Toni, announced on social media that her daughter is no longer with us.

“My heart is broken and so heavy right now,” Toni said.

Seven and a half years ago, Keeshae was last seen at a home near Chimborazo Park. She told a family member she would see them the next day but never made it back home.
