Wind River VxWorks RTOS v6.9 Features 64-bit Support

Wind River announced version 6.9 of VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS). VxWorks 6.9 features 64-bit computing support (in data and code execution) and improved multi-core processing support in both symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) and asymmetrical multiprocessing (AMP) configurations. VxWorks 6.9 is the first commercial-grade RTOS to fully support 32-bit and 64-bit processing on Intel Architecture. VxWorks 6.9 will be available in March. 64-bit VxWorks RTOS is ideal for telecommunications (such as network infrastructure equipment), industrial and medical applications (like high-definition imagery), and aerospace and defense applications (like highly complex radar, sonar and sensors).

Wind River VxWorks Platforms 6.9 Highlights

  • 64-bit support both in data and code execution
  • Multi-core processing performance in both symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) and asymmetrical multiprocessing (AMP) configurations
  • Includes Intel optimizing C++ compiler and the Intel Performance Primitives (IPP) library for Intel architectures
  • Support for the ARM Cortex A9 processor, with a multi-core SMP and ARM Thumb-2 instruction set
  • Enhanced networking capabilities, including new security features and increased Internet Engineering Task Force Request for Comments (IETF RFC) support
  • Creates higher-performance, hardware-optimized, multi-core powered products, on the latest silicon, with reduced risk and development investment
  • Speeds time-to-market by using commercially available and supported run-time platforms and developer tools with support for multiprocessing
  • Increases productivity by using the same development process and environment as for uniprocessor development, leveraging multiprocessing extensions to existing development tools
  • Partitions available hardware resources in a multi-core environment between multiple SMP and unsupervised AMP operating system configurations, including the ability to run multiple SMP operating systems side by side
  • Leverages Wind River Hypervisor to enable flexible multi-core configurations such as multi-OS, supervised AMP, and combinations of AMP and SMP on the same platform
