SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

You use the Distributed File System (DFS) Management snap-in on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer to add a client computer to a DFS Replication service group.
The client computer is running Windows Vista.

In this scenario, the client computer does not participate in the replication process.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Windows Vista version of the DFS Replication service differs from the Windows Server 2003 R2 version of the DFS Replication service.

You can use the DFS Management snap-in to remove the Windows Vista-based client computer from the DFS Replication service group. Also, you can successfully use only the Windows Vista version of the DFS Replication service in peer-to-peer DFS Replication service groups.
