This article has been archived and is no longer updated by Apple.

CDs formatted by a Sony Mavica digital camera don't appear on the Mac OS X desktop or in Finder windows. This document applies to Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9.

Symptom

When you insert a CD formatted by a Sony Mavica digital camera into the computer, the disc does not appear on the desktop or in a Finder window.

Solution

The Sony Mavica CD is a formatted as a UDF disc. The Finder does not have a feature to read certain types of UDF discs. Here is a workaround:

    1. Insert the CD into the camera.
    2. If your camera uses Picture-Transfer-Protocol (PTP), ensure the camera is in that mode.
    3. Connect the camera to your Mac.
    4. Open iPhoto, if necessary.
    5. Import the photos from the camera.
