Upcoming end of support for Nest Learning Thermostats (1st and 2nd gen)

Nest has announced the end of support for Nest Learning Thermostats (1st and 2nd gen). Your thermostat will no longer connect to or work in the Google Nest app or Google Home app starting on October 25, 2025.

Affected users will receive an email notification with an offer. Affected devices:

  • Nest Learning Thermostat (1st gen, 2011)
  • Nest Learning Thermostat (2nd gen, 2012)
  • Nest Learning Thermostat (2nd gen, Europe version, 2014)

What this means for you:

  • Starting October 25, 2025, your device will be unpaired and removed from your Nest app or Home app. You won’t be able to check the status of your thermostat in the Nest or Home app, remotely control the device, receive notifications, or change settings from your phone or tablet.

    • This also removes third-party assistants and other connected features like Home/Away Assist.
    • Nest Protects will also disconnect from the thermostat and emergency shut off will no longer run.
  • You can still continue to control your thermostat directly on your device.
  • The devices will no longer receive software or security updates, so you may experience an unpredictable decline in performance if you attempt to use it continuously.
  • Eligible EU Nest users will receive an email with a 50% discount to purchase the latest tado° thermostat.

To tell if your thermostat is impacted, please refer to How to tell which Nest thermostat you have or log into Your Devices to view your devices.

You can also confirm the model, serial number, software version, and other details in the Nest app or Google Home app. Follow the in-app instructions in Nest thermostat information menu.
