What is API Organization Verification?
At OpenAI, we take our responsibility seriously to ensure that AI is both broadly accessible and used safely. Unfortunately, a small minority of developers intentionally use the OpenAI APIs in violation of our usage policies. We're adding the verification process to mitigate unsafe use of AI while continuing to make more advanced AI capabilities available to the broader developer community.
Verifying your organization only takes a few minutes and does not have any spend requirements. Advancing through usage tiers will still unlock higher rate limits across models.
How do I begin the verification process?
To get started, go to https://platform.openai.com/settings/organization/general and click on Verify Organization.
What additional model and capability access will I unlock with Organization Verification?
Once verified, your organization will be able to use o3 with Streaming responses and have access to our GPT Image model.
Additionally, you will be able to access Reasoning Summaries when using the Responses API for o1, o3-mini, o3 and o4-mini.
Some organizations may already have access to these models and capabilities without having to go through the Verification process. To check if your organization has access, view the Limits page or test in the Playground.
What do I need in order to get verified?
To become verified, you'll need:
A valid government-issued ID from one of our supported countries. Most are supported.
You must not have recently verified another organization, as each ID can only verify one organization every 90 days.
Please note, not all organizations will be eligible for verification. You may check again at a later date to see if verification becomes available for your organization.
What do I do if it says verification is not available?
If verification isn't available to you at this time:
You can continue using the OpenAI platform and existing models as you currently do.
Models requiring verification today might become available to all customers in the future, even without verification.
I completed verification, why am I still seeing "not verified" errors?
After successfully completing verification, it can take up to 30 minutes for existing API keys to reflect the updated access. If you prefer immediate access, you can create a new API key, which will work immediately.
What countries and forms of identification are supported for verification?
We support identification from over 200 countries. The best way to see if your country is supported is to start the verification process.
