DevelopersthatusetheGNUGPLprotectyourrightswith two steps:
(1)assertcopyrightonthesoftware,and(2)offeryouthisLicense
givingyoulegalpermissiontocopy,distributeand/ormodifyit.
Forthedevelopers' and authors'protection,theGPLclearlyexplains
thatthereisnowarrantyforthisfreesoftware.Forbothusers' and
authors' sake, the GPL requires that modified versions be marked as
changed,sothattheirproblemswillnotbeattributederroneouslyto
authorsofpreviousversions.
Somedevicesaredesignedtodenyusersaccesstoinstallorrun
modifiedversionsofthesoftwareinsidethem,althoughthemanufacturer
candoso.Thisisfundamentallyincompatiblewiththeaimof
protectingusers' freedom to change the software. The systematic
patternofsuchabuseoccursintheareaofproductsforindividualsto

havedesignedthisversionoftheGPLtoprohibitthepracticeforthose
products.Ifsuchproblemsarisesubstantiallyinotherdomains,we

Finally,everyprogramisthreatenedconstantlybysoftwarepatents.
