I have Time Capsule for my Time Machine backups. It always works flawlessly for years. I cannot remember how long I had it but I know I got it after it was discontinued (last stock remaining before it gone forever). Anyway every since I updated Mac OS in September I keep getting this message, screenshot below.

I have keep doing "Erase Backup History" every time and it works for bit like 2-3 weeks then this pop up again, repeat and again, repeat and again. Does this mean my Time Capsule hard drive is failing?

I did used to do Time Machine backup with my previous NAS and it was nightmare and always failing so which why I got Time Capsule and it been brilliant until September this year 2024.

If it is failing then looks like I need get external hard drive attached to Mac 100% of time cos none of NAS works well with Time Machine except Apple own products.

BTW I am using Mac Studio M1 on Sequoia on latest version.

Try CarbonCopyCloner.
I'm not sure as to whether or not it does backups over a network.

But it's great for a "direct connection".

I experienced that same error (as have others) over the years and that is why I no longer rely on TimeMachine, even though I still use iit. I have found Carbon Copy Cloner much more reliable.

The problem could be the drive, the connection, or a TM bug or lack of support with the new OS. If your personal data is critical, try another app until you can isolate the problem.

I just found this from 9to5 Mac website about backups are failing on newest Mac OS. This might be issue causing it.

Looks like it might be Apple own fault this time not my Time Capsule failing.

EDIT: So I will wait and see when this bug fix and see if solve my issue before I decide to move away from my Time Capsule if bug fix doesn't fix my problem.

Hope your issue is resolved quickly or if not, that it's a simple procedure to move to something different.

My TC, from 2012, is still doing well and handling Airport, but I proactively moved TM off of it a few years ago. It's my oldest Apple device and makes me sentimental for the iPhone 4S and white plastic MacBook I was using back then.
