Empathy 1.A - Cultural Competence

Lanier High School is a diverse community.  Enhancing engagement and educating our staff and students is critical as we seek to increase our cultural competence.

Lanier High School will:

  1. use survey data (Lanier-generated ML survey questions) as a baseline for professional development needs and teacher growth.
  2. will incorporate professional development into planning period meetings, focusing on strategies to support instruction for our multilingual learners. 
  3. will teach advisement lessons to students structured to bring about cultural awareness.

  

 

 

Lanier will use the responses from the multilingual staff survey to guide instruction.  The survey will be administered a second time in the spring to evaluate changes in responses.

Additionally,  growth will be measured by the percent of students respondingpositivelytothe following cultural proficiency EES Student Survey item.

Equity 2.A - Multi-tiered System of Supports

LanierHigh School will implementa comprehensive framework to fully operationalize MTSS to address both academic and non-academic needs of students.

  1. LonghornTime will incorporate intervention programs with 9th-grade students identified as needing academic support (MAP testing results) and students in grades 10-12 who have academic deficiencies as demonstrated on district and classroom assessments. 
  2. ThroughPBIS,theschool will implement restorativepracticesto incentivize positive behavior and decrease the number of student suspension incidents.
  3. The four core departments (LA, MA, SC, SS) will administer formative assessments. Course teams that teach end-of-course classes will use the student data to drive instructional practices, feedback, and reteaching.
  4. Classroom teachers will incorporate quality plus teaching strategies into daily lessons to enhance our core belief of activating, acquiring, and assessing.

 

Data will measure growth to support an increase in the % of students scoring in the Proficient and Distinguished on the EOC assessments.

Equity 2.B - Opportunity and Access

 Lanier High School teachers will provide opportunities for students to learnby implementing high-quality instruction focusing on pathway completion and advanced post-secondary coursework.

  1. The Counseling Department will host student/parent informational sessions to continue highlighting opportunities for students to enroll in Advanced Placement and Maxwell High School of Technology.  
  2. The Counseling Department will host the annual Lanier Cluster College and Career: StudentandParentEvent.  
  3. The Counseling Department will host FAFSA night for seniors and their parents to assist with applying for financial aid.  
  4. Our Academy coordinator will schedule academy presentations and guest speakers careerrelated events, and activities

Excellence 4.B - Postsecondary and Workforce Readiness

Lanier High School will prepare each student for postsecondary and/or workforce readiness so that they have multiple pathways to success beyond high school.

1.  Expose students to postsecondary options and workforce readiness:

  • Work-based learning coursework and internships
  • Military recruiters on campus during lunch
  • University recruiters during Longhorn Time and lunch
  • Multinational technology company visits (Google, Microsoft)

2.  Continuously monitor student cohorts to ensure off-track students participate in credit recovery and/or retake classes as needed.
