You need a decent surround sound system that reproduces the centre channel clearly and ideally at a higher volume than the rest, because that's where the speech is. You also need a room with suitable acoustics, or a fancy sound system that can adapt to yours.

It also helps to be on the younger side because your hearing just naturally deteriorates as you get older, no matter what you do to protect it.

I use Firefox and the sad thing is that it's actually a pretty good browser on desktop.

The two big issues at the moment are that quite a few sites break with it because they were only tested with Chrome and derivatives, and that the Android version is still quite weak. Now to be fair the Android version does finally seem to be getting to a decent state. Some stuff is still painful like tab management, but for the most part it's usable, compatibility issues aside.

But what will happen then? Firefox has been dying for years and I can't see Mozilla turning it around, or anyone else adopting it. Safari is crap and nobody wants to tie themselves to Apple's mast. Everything else is based on Chrome.

Browsers require a lot of investment to develop, which is one of the reasons that Mozilla is failing with Firefox. There are not many other companies that can throw enough resources at it. Even Microsoft gave up and just adopted Chrome.

CommentRe:More nuclear power then? (Score 0)113

The two big problems with nuclear are the cost and the fact that it takes so long to build.

And while you are waiting for it instead of transitioning to renewables, those fossil fuel plants keep going to act as a placeholder for the nuclear. 20 years later your lungs have accumulated more soot and the nuclear plant still hasn't come online.

We have a solution to this, it works, it scales, it's proven technology, and for once it's also the cheapest and fastest option.

The 8 Bit Guy does address that in his video, by pointing out that the car was on Autopilot, not Full Self Driving, in that test. A subtle distinction perhaps, and questionable how much difference it should make to forward collision detection.

Someone else repeated the test with FSD and it seems to depend on the version you have. Older cars with V3 hardware will crash into it, newer ones with V4 will stop.

It's a well known issue with Tesla systems. Certain things confuse the vision system, and they have tried to mitigate it with new hardware, but it's still not perfect. It's also rather unfortunate for people with older cars, who get a flawed and dangerous product. Musk promised free upgrades, but is now not offering them on the basis that they are only needed to keep you from dying and otherwise the system "works".
