Amazon delivered a sneak peek of its Prime Air drone on Sunday with the help of "Top Gear" star Jeremy Clarkson.
In a new video, Amazon revealed that the Prime Air drones will deliver packages weighing up to five pounds in 30 minutes or less.
"It looks like science fiction, but it's real," Amazon said on its website. "One day, seeing Prime Air vehicles will be as normal as seeing mail trucks on the road."
The drone itself weighs under 55 pounds. It flies under 400 feet and uses "sense and avoid" technology to stay clear of obstacles in the air and on the ground.
In the video, the drone takes of vertically, flies to the drop-off spot — in this case, a backyard with an Amazon 'A' to mark the landing area — and then touches down vertically to safely deliver the package.
When Prime Air becomes a reality, it's not clear what the drones will look like, as the vehicle featured in the video is one of more than a dozen the company is testing.
Amazon, Google, Walmart and other companies are waiting for the Federal Aviation Administration to release comprehensive rules and regulations for drone flight. The FAA missed its deadline in October, and has said that it's now shooting for early 2016.
