Vita sold 62,543 units in that time in Japan, up from 11,456 units the week before. This comes at the same time as a new, significant release for the PS Vita – Phantasy Star Online 2 – launched, selling 61,227 at retail alone (Sony doesn’t release digital sales numbers).
Between the two Nintendo 3DS models – standard and LL – Vita was still outsold. The two 3DS models combined for 77,439 units sold. So Vita is still facing a significant uphill battle. Still, with a sales spike this significant, we’ll keep an eye on Vita sales in the next few weeks in Japan to see if these numbers can be sustained.
This also begs the question on if Sony will reconsider its stance of not cutting Vita’s price anywhere outside of Japan. After all, the proof is in the pudding.
