"Welcome to Devil's Island, doctor."
"Perhaps you'll call me Helen, doctor. With so many titles around, we're not going to be sure who's talking to who."
Doctor Tristan Adams and Doctor Helen Noel, 2267 ("Dagger of the Mind")

A title was a prefix or suffix given to a name that described the bearer's position, job, or status that were used as a form of address. The most basic title prefixes one could be given included mister, missus, miss, or madam.

In 2268, James T. Kirk made that claim that "people have disrupted stations before without being Klingonagents. Sometimes, all they need is a title, MisterBaris." (TOS: "The Trouble with Tribbles")

Educational titles could be displayed as title suffixes, such as PhD and MD, denoted one's field of study or level of mastery. Other title suffixes included "retired", often used by retired military personnel. (TOS: "The Squire of Gothos")
