Interactive subroutines were a type of subroutine that governed a holodeck character's personality and conversation style.

After an evening conversing with Michael Sullivan in 2376, a character in the "Fair Haven" holodeck program Paris 042, CaptainKathryn Janeway modified the Sullivan character's interactive subroutines. At first, Janeway requested the computer make him more "provocative... give him a more complicated personality," but the computer required additional specifics. Janeway elaborated to make Sullivan "more outspoken, more confident, not so reserved... and make him more curious about the world around him." (VOY: "Fair Haven")
