Audio commentaries are audio tracks provided on DVD and Blu-ray Disc releases, separate from the regular soundtrack. These concern tracks where a director, writer, actor or a collective are discussing details about the production, story, and so forth on a separate commentary track. As such, they are considered a form of special features when included in/on home video format releases. A single disc can hold several commentaries (as many audio tracks as space allows), and they can be generally selected from a menu of the disc. Often, the discussion by the participants will be on top of the dialogue and regular soundtrack, both of which have their volumes lowered for better comprehension of the commentary dialogue.

The very first audio commentary for Star Trek was one included on the 2001 DVD release of Star Trek: The Motion Picture (The Director's Edition).
