Alien: Rogue Incursion is a brand–new single–player action-horror VR game that immerses players in the world of Alien. The game stars Zula Hendricks, an unbreakable ex–Colonial Marine, on a dangerous mission that brings her to the uncharted planet Purdan, and the secrets hiding beneath its surface. With her sentient AI companion, Davis-01, Zula must fight her way to the heart of the infested Gemini Exoplanet Solutions black–site facility. There she will need to survive deadly attacks from the most cunning Xenomorphs ever encountered and discover new horrors and threats that once unleashed could spell the end for humankind.[1]
Gameplay[]
Players have access to weapons such as the M41A Pulse Rifle, and tools such as the ME3 Hand Welder. They can inject themselves with health.[2]
Development[]
The roots of Incursion lie with Survivos wanting to develop VR games for larger licensed properties, especially those with global reach and appeal. Survios CPO TQ Jefferson pitched a game set in the Alien universe. Development on the game began a few years prior to 2024. Jefferson was already a fan of the IP, but the developers did research to better understand the fanbase. The game's development was challenging, with various stops and starts, and one outright reboot of the game's development. Early on, the developers made what they called a "first playable"—a slice of the game that is developed to a high level of completion that serves as an example of what the final product could be. In Jefferson's words, "the game looked like Alien but didn’t play or feel like Alien. The game focus shifted after this, to focus on VR first and then adapt for PC/console second.[2]
After the shift, the studio developed what it called the "Partner Playable" demo. The demo was shown to Disney, Sony, and Meta, all of whom reacted to the demo positively. The demo had players moving through a facility armed only with a Pulse Rifle and M314 Motion Tracker. The player's aim was to get to a med bay while fighting Xenomorphs along the way. The developers were satisfied with this build of the game.[2]
Zula Hendricks was chosen as the player character as, according to Jefferson, she already represented everything the player was to do and experience in the game, given her nature as a trained and experienced fighter. That Hendricks is already familiar with the Xenomorphs by this point in her storyline, it gave the developers more gameplay and story options.[2]
Incursion was announced in April, 2024.[2]
More information was revealed at Comic–Con on 21st July 2022.[3]
